Winter die-off emergency response

An unusually severe winter left herds unable to reach forage across a large part of the range, and the first weeks of the response depended almost entirely on local ranger teams working without resupply.

The award recognised a team that maintained supplementary feeding and carcass sampling through the worst of it, producing the data that later informed the veterinary response.
