Project

Calving ground protection

Seasonal patrols concentrated where and when herds are most vulnerable.

SCA Project Protecting Saigas on the Ground Kazakhstan 2024 ← Back to archive

Saiga calving is highly synchronised, concentrating a large share of a population into a small area for a matter of days. It is the moment of greatest vulnerability, and the moment protection matters most.

This project funded seasonal patrol teams, vehicle costs and radio equipment across the calving window, coordinated with the regional protected area authority.
